The flow of nutrients and energy from one organism to another at different trophic levels forms a food chain. A food web consists of all the food chains in a single ecosystem. Each living thing in an ecosystem is part of multiple food chains. All of the interconnected and overlapping food chains in an ecosystem make up a food web. Trophic Levels. Organisms in food webs are grouped into categories called trophic levels. Echolocation is a technique used by bats, dolphins and other animals to determine the location of objects using reflected sound. This allows the animals to move around in pitch darkness, so they can navigate, hunt, identify friends and enemies, and avoid obstacles. Pheromones are substances which are secreted to the outside by an individual and received by a second individual of the same species. Many examples exist in animals but their role in humans remains uncertain since adults have no functioning vomeronasal organ, which processes pheromone signals in animals.'
