The scientists who developed the pet food using silkworm pupae say it eliminates harmful intestinal bacteria, and reduces odour in cat waste. Pupae are the immature offspring of silk moths, according to Miaoli Agricultural Research and Extension Station scientists. They spent five years developing the food before announcing their findings in September 2021. Said to be rich in protein, essential amino acids and omega-3 fatty acids, the silkworm cat food will sell for about NT$68 (US$2.45) per can, a little more than the average price of traditional pet products.
