'Beyond Meat, Impossible Foods set to DISRUPT the $1.4 trillion meat industry? In this video today we are going to talk about the disruptive potential of vegan plant based meat substitute companies like Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods and by the end of this video you I think you and I will at least be on the same page about the direction the $1.4 trillion meat industry is going even if we don’t agree on who exactly wins the War Against Meat. As investors we have to be attuned to how the world will change even if we can’t really predict what will happen. In this Age of Innovation, the ability to abandon antiquated systems of thought that you have an emotional or irrational attachment to is what will help you overcome challenges and prosper in the future. I bring this up because many people including myself have been very extremely resistant to the idea that one day, people would adopt meat substitutes en masse. When I stepped back a second to rationally look at why I was resistant to this idea I realized that its only because I like meat. I mean I really like meat to the point that I have a hipster like hobby of making may own charcuterie and European style dried sausages. But when I take a look at it rationally I realized that there isn’t just a small opening for success as a niche product on the high end of the cost scale for socially conscious vegans and vegetarians. There is actually a yawning chasm of opportunity as the cost decline curve first pushes ground meat substitutes below the cost of ground beef, pork and chicken and an even greater opportunity when cultured meat product costs decline below the cost of producing and processing live animals. We are going to talk about why this business makes sense now and in the future, how the meat industry in its current form could be dismantled and some of the ancillary effects as the switch to meat substitutes starts to ripple out into the general public. We are going to talk about the fact that it isn’t the ethical or environmental considerations that will disrupt the legacy meat industry but just like the EV industry it is going to be good old fashioned capitalism and cost decline curves that does it and I think at this point it is inevitable.
