'Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe Madrid\'s food banks denounced the shortage of supplies to be distributed among the needy on Wednesday, while the so-called \'hunger queues\' continue to grow due the COVID-19 pandemic. Food was distributed in the Parish of Santa Maria Micaela and San Enrique, where bare shelves could also be seen. \"The situation has been prolonged over time, people have lost their savings, the few savings they had, [with which] they have been hanging on, and we are faced with tremendous cases,\" explained Conrado Jimenez, executive president of the Fundacion Madrina, which delivers food to people in need. Jimenez said it is increasingly difficult for them to gather the seven tonnes of food they distribute daily, and they are forced to turn to \"charity.\" He added that they are also asking for help from foreign countries, as the crisis continues and \"there is no coverage, either from the state or [from the European] community, that can [help us to] sustain this situation.\" According to data collected by Bloomberg, the Spanish economy has suffered the biggest economic hit in Europe because of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a year-on-year decline of 18.5 percent in the second quarter of 2020.
