'Thousands flocked to Preston City Centre for the increasingly popular Lancashire Market, organised by Preston Business Improvement District (BID). Friargate was transformed into a sea of market stalls with traders from across the county selling a variety of food, drinks and other produce. Local foods such as pies, cheeses and sausages were on sale alongside exotic foods from across the globe including ostrich burgers and paella during an international cookery demonstration. And to make sure there was something for all the family, there were farm animals, birds of prey, free face painting and caricatures and hundreds of pounds of savings from a packed voucher book. BID manager Mark Whittle said: “Since we launched the Lancashire Market five years ago we have doubled in size and added more attractions to make it more than just a market. “This weekend’s event was one of our best yet and the feedback we got from people coming into the city was fantastic.” The event – coupled with the Dine with the Stars event later that evening which saw Coronation Street’s Kym Marsh and celebrity chefs Aldo Zilli and Ed Baines tour 12 of the city’s restaurants – formed the focal point for the Love Food Love Preston campaign. Mr Whittle added: “We are in the middle of a major celebration of the food Preston has to offer, both in its restaurants and eateries and from local producers. “The Market gave us a perfect opportunity to shine a light on all the great culinary delights that come out of our city and the county as a whole.” Local food expert Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines ran cookery demonstrations throughout the day. She said: “This is a great event and I am very pleased to be a part of it. “I am delighted that the BID has been able to shine a light on all the wonderful variety of food we have to offer and I think the Love Food Love Preston campaign is a unique and not to be missed event. “It is also splendid that our Preston Market is taking part in the Lancashire Market. It is the teamwork on these occasions that puts our city ahead of the game.”'
